Anya. | Красивый»
R U S S I A | I share with you, this intimate collective of vintage photographs; mementos from the childhood of an incredibly wonderful human being, very dear to me. The nostalgia… the emotions provoked by film photography, never cease to impress me, and I find this beautiful. I came across these gems, and instantly fell in love with them, because they each have personality. They’re photographs that speak…that are so pure, so innocent, and of an utmost refined elegance, that it’s difficult to put to words why they stand out. Perhaps it is that when I look at these photographs, I feel magic; I’m able to return to my princess world from my childhood, and experience, once more, the feeling of losing oneself in a secret garden.
Anya is the name of this little Russian doll. She was my English teacher, my inspiration to pursue my passion, and she is my friend. Thank you for sharing these with me, and thank you for allowing me the privilege to share them with others.
The word “beautiful” in Russian is “kрасивый.”

Happy 400th post, M E L I S S I M A.

‘Authenticity Above Else.’»
In a world with the potential for 7 billion minds to think - 7 billion mouths to speak - and 14 billion hands to create:
“May authenticity reign, and no copies breed.” -Melissa Ashley A.
You wouldn’t wear the same dress as her to a party. You wouldn’t eat the same foods if you were allergic. You wouldn’t kiss the same boy if she named him rotten. You wouldn’t make her same mistakes if they dragged her to failure. You wouldn’t ask the same questions if it meant learning the same answers. You wouldn’t trace her footsteps if it meant getting lost twice. You wouldn’t borrow her size shoes if it meant a snug fit. You wouldn’t feed from her energy if it meant depriving your body of its own.
She found herself long ago; met and claimed the mind God gave her.
When you look in the mirror, be not afraid. Hold a steady gaze, but let it not go to waste in a blank stare. Get to know the one breathing: learn every line of that face, feel its every contour. The one locked up by its owner, protected by you, is the person thirsting for a chance at life. Set her free: she deserves it too.
“l mondo è bello perchè è vario.”

She’d Like to Thank the Academy.»
It’s the one award ceremony that I watch religiously every year, so no six-hour time difference was going to deter me from another Oscar experience last night. Although forced to make my appearance unconventionally (through Skype), I too made it to the Kodak Theathre. Fashionably late by just a few minutes, I’ll acknowledge, but I’ll say I’m getting better. And what a night it turned out to be. I had heads turning (literally).
I humbly accepted my first Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role…or maybe that was Melissa Leo? Either way, “Melissa” made Oscar history, being the first to drop “the F-bomb” in an acceptance speech. Inappropriate on a professional level? Perhaps. But her humor and whit buffed it well.
Melissa’s may not be graceful, but they sure have charm— And boy do we know this well!

Burt’s & Chocolate Segars.»
βροχή: Greek for “rain” | On this final February evening, Zeus and the rest of the weather Gods are celebrating. Tonight, the cobblestone is saturated in a layer of slik grease, the piazza lanterns drip cold beads of rain, and Ponte Sisto is deserted. The temperature’s dropped significantly and the frigid air slices down to the bone; Roma’s been friendlier.
But I love the space, the night, the mist.
My furniture’s rearranged. The couch sits in its cave-sheltered cocoon; a black sea of strength and comfort. My body’s lost in the braids of knits and tweed. And what better way to keep dry from the rain than with some Burt’s and chocolate segars?
Buona notte, mondo. And a happy, sunny Monday to all. -m e l i s s i m a.
